Sharepoint--When to Crawl, Walk , Run
Ray Mitchell, Senior SharePoint Consultant,
Avtex
Many of us have seen SharePoint 101 presentations describing
features and functionality of SharePoint 2010. What we're missing
are the best practices and recommendations for what to implement
and when. What are the benefits/risks of choosing to crawl first
and then walk or run later? What effort is required to jump ahead
and implement the utopia? This presentation will break down key
functionality areas within SharePoint and outline the crawl, walk
or run maturity models. Once you have an understanding of what it
takes to implement and manage these models, you'll be able to
develop your platform strategy and make critical choices about
where to focus your efforts.
Raymond Mitchell is a Senior SharePoint Consultant at Avtex in Minneapolis, MN. He has
over 10 years of IT experience and has worked with every version of
SharePoint since its release as SharePoint Team Services. Since
2004 he has helped coordinate and speak at the Minnesota SharePoint User
Group and led the effort to offer the user group to online
attendees starting in 2009. He has also been a speaker at the
Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, and St. Louis SharePoint User Groups, as
well as at several SharePoint Camps and SharePoint Saturday events.

SharePoint Services 3.0 using SharePoint Designer 2007 and

Securing Your Future with Open Source Code
Davvid Zey, Director of Development Services, Zyquest
Back in the 1980's, it used to be catchphrase in corporate
America that "you never got fired by buying IBM". Much the
same could be said in the early 2000's, except the company might
have been Microsoft or Oracle. But if you look more closely,
even Oracle has now thrown it's hat into the ring by buying MySQL
and Java and supports dozens of other Open Source projects,
including virtualization and office tools. So, momentarily
laying aside the "Corporate Enterprise" that might have dozens of
resources to support all sorts of systems and applications, what
about the average companies' IT environment? Is there a place
for Open Source? Can it indeed fulfill the promise of
lowering costs, yet doing so in a secure way? Listen as David
Zey discusses the different areas that have matured in the Open
Source realm, from Servers to languages to CMS portals and
ecommerce platforms. Open Source has made inroads into these
and many other areas and can be quick and easy to install,
relatively simple to support, and, yes, can save you money in a
very secure way. Is Open Source right for you?
David Zey has over 15 years in the IT
profession. Specialties include business analyst,
troubleshooter, architect, enterprise service bus, business
solutions, technical lead, web services, MCP, project
manager. Complete bio information at: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/david-zey/3/b95/99

Mitigating the Business Pain and Suffering of Social
Media Networking
Michael Gauthier, Chief Technology
Officer
Hackers are increasingly targeting social networking services
like such as Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. Many
employees who log on during the day at work might be causing
information security risks at their companies. But banning
the technologies may be short-sighted since business requirements
from marketing, sales, HR are urging access to such
technologies. Forbid it or not, most I/T Executives know that
users will find ways how to use these tools anyway, within the
business environment. The emergence of Web 2.0
technologies has prompted the need for a tools that are able to
distinguish between different risks within a website's features and
content, and apply policies accordingly that are manageable.
This expert tip discusses the new generation of
"application-aware" tools and devices that have emerged to deal
with today's application-centric threats.
Michael Gauthier, Chief Technology Officer, of Heartland
Business Systems has been architecting data infrastructure and
security solutions for private and public sector institutions for
over 15 years. Michael brings a very unique perspective to
the market as he holds multiple Cisco CCIE certifications, CISSP,
SANS GCIA as well as over a dozen other technical and non-technical
certifications. His broad experience has helped him to
quickly assess security issues and develop customer remediation
strategies that cross multi-functional boundaries.
